Queens Jubilee Pageant "Dummy Run"

There has been enormous interest in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee pageant held to mark the occasion on June 3rd in 2012. To prepare for the event there is to be a dummy run exercise on the river later this month.

It is expected that round 30 boats will take part on Sunday 26th June 2011. The private vessels will travel from Putney Bridge to the Lower Pool of London on an ebbing tide.

The Port of London Authority say the aim of this month’s exercise is to “assess the feasibility of maintaining the 4 knot speed requirement and moving in a flotilla formation which is critical to the success of the pageant”.

The majority of the vessels will be navigating from Teddington Lock and a small number from various marinas in Central London. The vessels will be navigating three abreast and are expected to leave Putney Bridge at 13:40.

For the event next year around 1,000 boats will make up the flotilla, the biggest to be seen on the Thames for decades. It is expected million-strong crowds will gather on the banks of the river to watch the spectacle.

The deadline for applications to join the flotilla next year is October 31st 2011. If you are considering entering the event and would like to chat to Cheers Insurance Brokers to discuss your boat insurance for the event call 020 8943 5333.
