You never really know what you’re buying and it pays to have a professional marine survey done for complete peace of mind.
If you are intending to buy, insure, finance or commercially operate a boat, it’s advisable to have a professional survey.
- A professionally qualified surveyor will work to an established code of conduct and should also be covered by professional indemnity insurance, which can be checked by you.
- In the event of an accident, a surveyor can be employed to ensure that repairs are appropriate and sufficient. If submitting a claim your insurer must agree to this.
- A surveyor can also offer other services such as certification for licenses and measurements for registration.
- It’s not always necessary to have a full survey - you can instruct a surveyor to provide just the information you want e.g. a basic condition survey. If the survey is required for insurance purposes, check exactly what report is required.
